Let's talk about The Dark Knight

Thu Aug 28, 2008, 6:05 PM
If you haven't seen it... leave. Crawl up in your little hermit shell and leave my face.
It is by far.
The most epic.
fucking.
movie.
ever.

So why didn't I bring it up earlier? been busy. leave it at that.

Saw it for the 2nd time in Imax last night, that's a total of 3 times seeing since it came out.
I think this movie is just so intellectually brilliant, that it can't not be amazing. I wish the Superman movies had writers as brilliant as these ones.
Okay, don't get me started on how freaking lame Batman's voice was, probably the only thing about the movie I didn't like, but whatever, I'm over it.

I'm kind of upset of the way people are obsessing over Joker. It seems to have become a "banwagon" and people are on it because
1: Heath Leadger died and did such a fantastic job
2: His appearance and morbidity
3: His cute little lines like "I want my phone call"
This frustrates me because people aren't seeing the big picture of what Joker really is. He's not just a criminal mastermind, he's not just mental; he's a genius. He's exactly what Batman is. Both of their goals are to send messages, just to opposite sides of humanity.
What Joker does isn't just out of insanity, he is trying to prove to everyone how easily selfish we all become and how heavily influenced we are by others. Unfortunately these days the only way to get a message like that across is by doing what only "crazies" are capable of doing: murder.
Despite his morbidity I think there are so many lessons to be learnt from the Joker. Although he does go about things the entirely wrong way, lol.

I never liked Batman before. There's this classic rival between Batman and Superman fans but I hated Batman for my own logical reasons. I hated the way that he was in fact a vigilante, and was basically a rich spoiled boy with too much time on his hands. But this movie made me see him in a totally different light. The way he essentially became the hero by becoming the villain was a brilliant twist.
"You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
The way they pulled that off in so many different ways in the movie just blew my mind. The way Harvey Dent saw himself become the villain but then died and Batman took the role of the villain and turned Dent back into the hero. Awh. Can't describe the awesomeness of that genius plot.

I also think its awesome that Batman is so against guns. He'd rather fist fight a vicious tiger, nude, then use a gun. I find that really noble.

Okay, I'm gunna stop now before this gets out of hand. I could talk about this movie forever.
:peace:

i kinda love to go see the movie, but i'm scared of clowns so when i saw the joker the first time i got all terrified. i do constantly hear how great the movie is, but they do confirm that i'll most likely get all scared of the joker (knowing how i hate clowns/clown-looking persons).
on the other hand, i love heath ledger because he's a great actor (i was really sad when i heard he had died). and since i'm seeing the commercials and posters of batman so often, i'm getting used to the face of the joker. i think i might try and see it, because i'm very curious and i actually really want to see it.

good to hear from you again.

I saw it a week or so ago and you basically said what I thought. I like the Joker more than Batman but that's just because I found the Joker more of an interesting character than batman. And the whole 'ferry' scene had me on the edge of the seat that's got to be one of the most tense movie sequences I've ever watched. And I suppose Batman is one of the more 'noble' heroes out there, like you said. And the fact he doesn't kill is a handicap as well but still it just makes him more 'noble' in my eyes.
Yeah I'll stop babbling now. XD

I saw it as soon as it appeard at the movie's. And I must admit it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. I've neve rbeen much into batman's movies, when I first heard that Heath's died, also, when I heard he died but the movie was done, I thought I must see the movie for kind of "tribute" for him. I always liked the actor. I still do, he always did awesome. And he did also this time, because his Joker was just brilliant. He was all better than Batman was (btw, I didn't like Batman's voice, neither), but it was something deeper than just a criminal mastermind as you mentioned. His character was more interesting that Batman's also because it must've been tugh to play him for Heath, who always was more of a shy guy not caring about the whole fame stuff, he was always himself.
Aaaaaand I should probably stop writing this comment, I'm the same way, I could talk about it forever :D
Just, brilliant movei <33

That movie was seriously amazing.
I loved the Joker, and he was seriously the most amazing in that movie. Like you said, there's a lot of lessons to be learned from him.

I've never liked that batman movies much, never really got in to them. But this one. It's just, awesome.

It made me laugh that every time he told about how he got his scars it was a different story XD

I know, I really can't believe Heath is gone. But when you watch that movie there is no soul of Heath Leadger left. He is purely the Joker, which is kind of scary. I don't think it was necessary for him to go the lengths he did to get into the role. I mean it was incredible, but not necessary.
I mean when you compare the Joker to like.. Brokeback Mountain, or A Knight's Tale... gosh, just two entirely different sides of him.

:superman: Regardless, you call Clark before you dial 9-11? I mean, what's he going to do? Dismantle the bomb with his great hair?? :superman:
:iconbokin:
Ahh! I know! I expected the convicts to do it but I was like "If the citizens do it then it only proves they're no different then the convicts." Which is exactly what Joker wanted to prove.
I thought it was a wicked out come, then how Batman says "This city just showed you it's full of people who are ready to believe in good."
Awh. love.

Anyone who chooses to kill isn't a hero. But then again, Batman doesn't kill and he isn't really a hero, so what makes him good?
Essentially, every true hero has morals. If Batman killed the Joker, he would no longer be that "silent guardian" which is what makes him good, he would turn into the Joker. Because he would have ignored his morals and broken his one rule which is what kept him as the Batman.

In my eyes, anyone that kills anyone else, even if it is eliminating an unstoppable force, it doesn't make that person any better then the force they eliminated. There's always an alternative from murder.

lol made you laugh?? those stories sent shivers down my spine, cause when you think of it... those types of things happen to kids everyday (maybe not the face carving part) so it makes the Joker even more believable that someone could turn into that.
Makes me wonder if he was actually hiding the true story of how he got the scars...
