City workers have been on strike for 3 weeks and because of them I've missed 3 weeks of hockey, had to play soccer in knee deep grass and suffer the smell of the piling garbage.

Dude. That happened here not tooooo long ago. It sucked balls so much, and I don't even play sports. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I did, so I'm super sorry to hear that. Hope it doesn't last much longer for you =/
